These webpages are part of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s Ask 3 Questions campaign to raise awareness of shared decision making and encourage both patients and doctors to work together in deciding on the best course of action.
The webpages are primarily designed to provide information to patients and could be used as a model by others interested in creating similar webpages for their organisation or health economy.
The webpages set out what is meant by shared decision making, why it is important and how patients can play an acitve role in decisions about their own care.
It includes the three questions patients can ask, drawn from the Ask 3 Questions campaign, as part of playing a more active role in decisions about their treatment can care:
- What are my options?
- What are the possible benefits and risks of those options?
- How likely are the possible benefits and risks of each option to occur
It also includes brief feedback from a patient and nurse of their experience of using the Ask 3 Questions materials and getting people more involved in decisions about their care.
Option Grids developed by the Cardiff team to support people with a decision to make about their treatment are also available to download from the site.
