This White Paper sets out the vision for the whole health and social care system, promising people a stronger voice to drive service improvement, greater involvement – expecially for those with long term needs – and an increase in the availablility of self management training for those living with long term conditions.
This paper set a new direction for the whole health and social care system. It confirmed the vision set out in the Department of Health Green Paper, Independence, Well-being and Choice. It promised a radical and sustained shift in the way in which services are delivered, ensuring that they are more personalised and that they fit into people’s busy lives. It also promised people a stronger voice so that they are the major drivers of service improvement. It set out the agenda for user involvement in a whole range of social and health services, especially for those with long-term needs, and encouraged greater links between services. It also made a specific promised an increase in self-management training for people living with a long term condition from 12,000 to over 100,000 course places by 2012.
