This case study describes in a few paragraphs how one of the participants on a Patient Skills Programme run by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust as part of the Health Foundation’s Co-creating Health programme went on to set up a walking group.
The group is for Asian elders and meets weekly. It attracts approximately 10 people, mostly males of retirement age who have weight problems and have diabetes (or are at risk of this); many also have cardiovascular problems. Mohammed, who established the group, also sees the social element as an important part of the health benefit.
