In this three minute video, Kate Martin, a member of the Shared Decision Making in CAMHS Steering Group, talks about how shared decision making has changed practice and improved outcomes in CAMHS services.

She outlines how young people routinely express that they do not feel involved in decisions about their care, and there is a high drop-out rate from CAMHS services. The team found that their work on shared decision making enhanced the confidence and skills of young people in taking responsibility for their mental health. Kate notes that whilst the outcomes of care may not change, the experience of care changes massively, both for those receiving healthcare and the professionals providing it.
